Way more people care about D2 than about remaster of an RTS, D2 is just from a more popular genre. It's a remaster of a finished product, so in this case pre-orders aren't going to affect much how much development will happen after release, except for some patches. I think there is a difference between RTS and hack'n slash/RPG. Yes, WC3:Reforged did not live up to the hype, but with the various trailers we've been given, not just cinematics but gameplay, they've clearly learned a blunt lesson from their consumers after having to issue refunds for WC3:Reforged, which affected ABK's stock price, which is where this differs from failed stretch goals and product launches from Kickstarter games. Pre-order is a bad move in most cases, yes, its a good thing for company, of course, they get your mony, for product that does not even exist yet in its full state. Of course there is an exeption to the rule, but you need to understand that they are doing estimates of how much they need before and on another scale, not by pre-orders.
